Winner: Beach, Weldon S. Thomson
Weldon captured this image from the cliffs overlooking the beach in
La Jolla, CA. As the sun was setting, it created a nice silhouette of
the boys standing on the shoreline. He captured the image with a
Nikon N90s using a Nikkor AF 80-200 f2.8D on Kodak Elite II 100.
It was scanned using Nikon LS-2000. There was no manipulation
other than adjusting color/density to match original slide

Timmu, Pirkka Liukkonen
Pirkka tells us "I took this picture on one cloudy afternoon
when my friend was going to swim with her dog, Timmu. The dog is an
American cocker spaniel and the beach is in Helsinki. I'm just learning
the features of my camera, so I was there taking some photos. BTW,
now it's illegal to cut the tails off the dogs in Finland, which is
good. However this dog is not from Finland."
To capture this image Pirkka used a Nikon F80 and a Nikkor AF 70-200
f4.5-5.6 on Fuji 200 film. It was scanned using an HP Colorscan 4
using Deskscan II software into Paint Shop Pro v7.0 and was
sharpened using the "Sharpen more" filter.

Last Sun, Joel Herman
Joel tells us "I was on vacation in Puerto Vallarta and was
'stalking' various people on the beach at sunset. As the sun
approached the horizon I noticed a young child trying to collect the
last rays of the sun as it was about to disappear over the horizon.
I must say that the sunsets are so beautiful there that I almost ignored
the photo opportunity myself."
To capture this image Joel used an Olympus 2020 digital camera.
For the final image he used a slight crop and light unsharp masking.
